Maruti Suzuki Baleno vs. Honda BR-V – Comparison

Both the vehicles have plenty of different variants, we have chosen the premium category Sigma Petrol for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and V CVT Petrol for the Honda BR-V.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a 1.2L VVT petrol engine, with displacement 1197 cc. It’s a 4 cylinder engine that pulls off a maximum of 83 bhp in power, and 115 Nm in torque. The diesel engine variants are 1.3 liters in displacement, although they offer lower power output. The Baleno is a FWD car.

Honda BRV comes with a 4-cylinder 1.5 liter IVTEC engine, actual displacement on this engine is 1497 cc. Bigger engine has its perks, of which the ability to pull off higher maximum power 119 bhp and maximum torque 145 Nm is the most appraised. The Honda BRV is also a FWD vehicle, like the Baleno.


If mileage is the most important concern, then you should get the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. And if you need power, performance and off-roading capability within a budget then Honda BRV seems like a better option.

The maximum city driving mileage on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno could be up to 21 kmpl, and the maximum highway driving mileage on the same is 27 kmpl. However, depending on how bad the traffic is the figures could significantly reduce.

Honda BRV isn’t known to be the greatest mileage vehicle, however it does good figures for an SUV. The maximum city mileage could be up to 15 kmpl, and the maximum highway mileage could be up to 22 kmpl.

Suspension and Steering

The front suspension in the Honda BRV is McPherson Strut Coil Spring. Maruti Suzuki Baleno has settled for the same brand as well, as it has a McPherson Strut front suspension. Similar equipment are seen in the rear suspension as well, a Torsion Beam Coil Spring in the Honda BRV and a Torsion Beam in the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Honda BRV has a collapsible electric power steering, and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has a standard electric power steering.

Seating and Boot Space

Honda BRV isn’t only bigger in dimensions, it’s more useful as well. There are 7 seats including the driver. However, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is more of a compact car with 5 seats including the driver.

Honda BRV compromised its boot space for increased seating, as the capacity is only 223 liters. Maruti Suzuki Baleno has 339 liters in the boot.
